This coming Monday will be Dr. Martin Luther King Day and those that are now 45 years of age have really no idea of what his life meant. They know who he is because they are taught about him when they were small in the history classes or at home from their parents and grandparents. That is just about the extent of the education on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.For those Americans, who were around when he was making his mark on history, we all know first hand his impact on our lives. Our lives changed dramatically, no matter what color you were. That is the impact that he had and what his cause of equal rights was all about. We were facing the changes up close and personal, as they often now say.The citizens that were born in the late 1960s haven't seen what we older ones have seen, such as the first man in space, the first television shows, the first X-rated movie winning an Academy Award. I could just go on and on about the firsts that we have seen that the younger ones haven't. And let's don't ever forget that breakfast drink that the astronauts discovered for us, Tang.There are just a lot of things that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy has established him way after he was assassinated in 1968 in Memphis There were so many lives that were changed by him, his faithful followers and his legacy way after 1968. That is what he did.There are still a few Americans still alive who marched with him. They always tell some horror stories of threats, verbal and physical. There were also a few people who were killed during all that unrest. There are still some people who refuse to acknowledge that, but believe me, there was always a constant reminder in the news, in the papers and on television.To me, he was a very quiet man. He may not have been one in real life, but he always struck me as a kind of stoic, quiet man, who believed that God would take care of the good in this world and he would take care of the bad.
